- Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation also known as “yogic sleep”. It is practiced lying down with a teacher guiding the session. The practice draws our attention inwards, and we learn to surf between states of wakefulness and sleep, where our body finds its natural state of equilibrium – the breath balances and becomes quiet, unconscious and conscious aspects of the mind reveal themselves, and we fall into an innate state of deep, blissful awareness. The end goal is to remain in this state and to not fall asleep ....although it does happen :) Anyone can practice Yoga Nidra, but it has immense appeal for those who wish to 'let go' of their busy minds and find peace within the mind, body and soul. It also has immense value for those suffering from sleep deprivation, trauma, anxiety or depression (to any degree). - RESTORATIVE YOGA
Restorative Yoga is a practice which utilizes props (you know I love props) to support the body in positions of comfort and ease, in order to facilitate health and relaxation The use of props enables the body to feel more comfortable and 'safe'. It also allows for longer holds - some up to 20 minutes - in order to facilitate the process of relaxation. When the body is comfortable, it can relax. HOW CAN RESTORATIVE YOGA HELP US IN OUR EVERYDAY LIVES? Restorative Yoga is a mindset. It creates spaciousness in our lives. It allows one to take the principles of this practice into everyday life; to RESTORE a healthy and harmonious balance. Practiced regularly, students will slowly begin to become more present, both in everyday tasks and in situations where they may tend to focus on the 'next action/thought' or reacting without thought. By slowing down and RESTORING balance, one can begin live their life differently - becoming more present and possibly, embark upon the process of tuning into that wonderful intuition that we all possess, rather than reacting with emotion. Improves: posture, mood, awareness, sleep, circulation Reduces: stress hormones (coritsol) - sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight mode). Can Relieve Pain - joint, hips, shoulders, back, headaches, osteoarthritis, muscle tension It is a WONDERFUL journey to peace.
